PROGRAM CHANGE

ROCK STAR VIOLINIST JOSHUA BELL
TO PLAY BRAHMS’ VIOLIN CONCERTO

(Portland, OR) – When violin virtuoso Joshua Bell and his 1713 Stradivarius take the stage for concerts on January 14th, 15th and 16th, he’ll play the popular—and formidable—Brahms’ Violin Concerto.

Brahms’ only violin concerto makes particularly challenging demands on a violinist with its dazzling array of double and triple stops, its quickly paced passages, and its rhythmic variety.  Its lush, lyric beauty enthralled audiences at its 1879 premiere, a popularity that continues undiminished to this day.

Mr. Bell had originally been scheduled to play the Shostakovich Violin Concerto No. 1.

The concert also includes the previously published Banchieri Concerto primo (“The Battle”), Handel’s Royal Fireworks Music and Janáček’s Sinfonietta.

Tickets, beginning at $26, are selling very quickly and are available online at www.orsymphony.org or by phone at 503-228-1353.

Note:  Mr. Bell will also play the Brahms Violin Concerto in Salem on January 13.
