OREGON SYMPHONY ANNOUNCES ITS FIRST SOLD-OUT CONCERT
– OF NEXT SEASON

(PORTLAND, Ore.) – In what is easily the earliest Oregon Symphony concert sellout in memory – perhaps ever – the orchestra announced today that all available seats have been sold for next season’s concert with renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma.

The Dec. 5 concert, one of the highlights of the 2010/11 concert season unveiled in late January, is a one-night-only event featuring Ma’s first collaboration with the Oregon Symphony since 2001. Tickets for the season have thus far been available only to subscribers, who officially snapped up the last of the seats for Yo-Yo Ma today – more than 32 weeks (or 226 days, to be exact) before the performance.

“It’s a rare thrill when any presenter of Classical music gets to hang the ‘Sold Out’ signs for a concert more than seven months in advance, so we’re elated,” said Oregon Symphony Association President Elaine Calder. “This is why we – and every orchestra – are always so excited to have Yo-Yo Ma perform with us. But we’ve got many other musical superstars performing with us next season, too, and tickets are still available for those.”

Indeed, the performance with Yo-Yo Ma is hardly likely to be the only sold-out performance in what’s proving to be an exceptionally popular concert season next year. The orchestra has already sold more than $2.75 million worth of tickets for next season’s performances to subscribers alone. Individual tickets do not go on sale until May 17 for Special concerts and Aug. 2 for performances that are part of the orchestra’s various subscription series.

Based on ticket sales so far, other performances next season for which tickets are expected to be in short supply include:
